About the Edinburgh Lodge

The Edinburgh Lodge of the Theosophical Society in Scotland hosts a year-round programme of evening talks and workshops at the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre on Palmerston Place, Edinburgh. Our programme brings together speakers from across the UK and internationally, covering a wide range of subjects — philosophy, world spiritual traditions, consciousness, indigenous knowledge, alchemy, art, and more. We are a small, welcoming community committed to open inquiry and cross-cultural dialogue.

About the Role

We are looking for a Programme Coordinator to help the lodge committee plan, organise, and promote our Thursday evening programme of talks.

This is a voluntary role (expenses paid) suited to someone who enjoys working with people, is comfortable with administrative tasks, and has an interest in the subjects we explore. You do not need to be a member of the Theosophical Society.

The time commitment is approximately 1–4 hours per week, varying with the stage of the programme cycle — busier when a new season's programme is being developed, lighter when it is up and running.

Responsibilities

Work with the lodge committee to develop each season's programme of talks

Liaise with speakers by email, telephone, and in person — confirming dates, gathering talk descriptions and biographies, and handling any queries

Manage the lodge mailing list and send programme announcements to members and friends

Produce simple promotional materials (e.g. programme flyers, email announcements)

Create and manage event listings on Eventbrite for workshops and ticketed events

Help maintain our presence on Facebook and on the Theosophical Society in Scotland website

Coordinate with the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre regarding venue bookings

Essential Skills

Comfortable communicating by email, telephone, and in person

Experience managing email lists or mailing lists

Basic word processing and document formatting

Able to produce simple promotional material (flyers, email announcements)

Well-organised, reliable, and able to work independently

Desirable Skills

Any of the following would be a bonus, but none are required:

Social media management (Facebook, Instagram, or similar)

Marketing or audience development experience

Website content management

Experience with Eventbrite or similar ticketing platforms

Familiarity with Mailchimp or other email marketing tools

Graphic design (Canva or similar)

What We Offer

Expenses paid

A supportive committee and an engaged, welcoming community
