About The Role
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Youth Offending Team Worker to join our Plymouth Youth Justice Service, supporting children and their families to achieve safer, more positive futures.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a service that is responding to the national youth justice reform agenda, placing families at the centre of preventing and reducing offending. You will work directly with children and their parents/carers to strengthen relationships, build parenting confidence, and support sustainable change.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver whole-family interventions, recognising the impact of parenting capacity, relationships, and the home environment on a child’s behaviour.
- Provide early intervention support, particularly for children subject to Out of Court Disposals and diversion pathways, to prevent escalation into statutory systems.
- Engage and support parents/carers to improve participation, accountability, and positive parenting strategies, using a relationship-based approach.
- Deliver or support delivery of evidence-based parenting interventions, including structured parenting support, family-based work, and approaches informed by models such as Non-Violent Resistance.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners across safeguarding, education, health, and social care, ensuring coordinated and effective multi-agency support.
- Contribute to assessments, planning, and reviews, ensuring that the voice and needs of both the child and their family are central.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children, parents, and families, particularly where there are complex needs or challenging behaviours.
- Understands the importance of a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and relationship-focused approach.
- Is skilled in engaging families who may be reluctant or hard to reach.
- Has knowledge of (or willingness to learn) evidence-based parenting interventions and family work approaches.
- Is a strong team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-agency environment.
- Is committed to improving outcomes for children and reducing reoffending.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a service at the forefront of youth justice reform, shaping how family work is delivered.
- Access to training and development opportunities, including parenting programmes and specialist interventions.
- Work within a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to making a real difference to children and families.
We are a flexible employer and provide a variety of working arrangements tailored to the needs of each role.
