About the Role

This is a new and exciting role which will involve research, development and coordination to create and deliver locally informed, evidence-based, young- person centred approaches to understand, prevent and reduce vaping among children and young people. The postholder will work with young people, schools, youth settings, parents/carers, health partners, community organisations, and other stakeholders to deliver evidence-based education, engagement, and early intervention activity, helping to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to understand the current vaping landscape with young people in Solihull, lead the development and delivery of an evidence-based pilot youth vaping prevention and cessation programme, helping to reduce vaping among children and young people. The postholder will use research and local insight to design and implement effective education, awareness, and behaviour change interventions, engaging young people in meaningful and impactful ways. Working collaboratively with young people, schools, youth services, parents and carers, healthcare professionals, and community organisations, the role will build strong partnerships to maximise reach and effectiveness. Responsibilities will also include developing resources and intervention materials, monitoring and reporting on project outcomes, and ensuring all activities are informed by local need, current evidence, and best practice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As the Youth Vaping Project Officer, you will lead the implementation of an innovative pilot project aimed at reducing vaping among children and young people. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating project activity, monitoring progress against agreed objectives, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including schools, colleges, youth organisations, public health partners, and community groups. The role involves delivering and coordinating educational workshops, awareness sessions, and engagement activities, as well as developing age-appropriate resources and communications for young people, parents, carers, and professionals. You will gather feedback and insights to support service development, maintain accurate project records, contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, and prepare reports, presentations, and updates for partners and stakeholders. Working collaboratively across teams and organisations, you will ensure all activities are delivered in line with safeguarding requirements, information governance standards, and organisational policies. You will also be expected to keep up to date with current evidence, policy, and best practice relating to youth vaping, tobacco control, and behaviour change. The role requires excellent partnership-working and communication skills, a flexible approach to supporting engagement activities, occasional travel across the locality, and the successful completion of an enhanced DBS check.
