Outreach and Public Engagement Associate

The Department of Chemistry is seeking an enthusiastic Outreach and Public Engagement Associate to join its Outreach and Public Engagement with Research team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a recent Chemistry graduate, or a student completing their MChem degree, to gain experience in outreach, public engagement, education, and widening participation within a world-leading department.

This post is is fixed term until 16 July 2027

The successful candidate will support the delivery, development, and evaluation of a wide range of chemistry outreach and public engagement programmes, working with schools, colleges, community groups, and public audiences. Activities include practical workshops, demonstrations, school visits, public engagement events, and larger access programmes delivered both within the University and externally.

Working closely with colleagues across the Department and wider University, the postholder will help develop engaging resources and activities, support student ambassadors, contribute to programme evaluation, and act as an ambassador for Chemistry and the University.

Applicants should have a degree in Chemistry (or equivalent experience), excellent communication skills, and experience of working with young people or non-specialist audiences through outreach, public engagement, teaching, or related activities. An interest in outreach, education, public engagement, or widening participation is essential.

The role requires a flexible approach to working hours to support programme delivery, including occasional evening or weekend work. It also involves travel to schools and outreach venues across Oxfordshire and occasionally beyond; applicants should therefore hold a full UK driving licence or be able to travel independently to outreach venues.
