Active Outdoors Assistant

National Trust

Do you love being outdoors and helping people have a great day out? We’re looking for an Active Outdoors Assistant to join our team at Cliveden and support our Summer of Play programme. You’ll offer a warm welcome, share practical information, and help visitors make the most of their time with us.

You’ll work up to five days a week (9am–5pm), including both weekend days throughout August. As public transport is limited, you’ll need your own transport to get here. The nearest stations are Taplow and Bourne End.

In this role, you’ll help deliver our Summer of Play — a festival‑style experience running from 18 July to 6 September, designed to inspire families through active, creative, nature‑based and imaginative play.

This year’s programme is extra special as we launch a Summer of Play supported by Pokémon. Families will be able to explore new Pokémon‑themed zones, collect stickers and enjoy larger‑than‑life games as part of their adventure.

If you'd like to find out more, please contact Beatrice McCartney (Senior Visitor Experience Officer) ***email_hidden***.

Interviews will be commencing on Tuesday 23 and Thursday 25 June 2026 with the position starting weekend 18 –19 July.

What it's like to work here:Cliveden Estate, is an inspiring place to build a career in creativity, heritage and the outdoors. Cliveden House, riverside setting and family-friendly events draw visitors all year round, making this property a busy location with a wide range of opportunities. There is always plenty to do at the 375-acre estate, with conservation of the Long Garden among recent projects. There are acres of woodland paths, a series of formal gardens with far-reaching views across the Thames and an intimate Rose Garden for those wanting a little bit of peace and tranquillity.

Cliveden’s team are close-knit with a wonderful sense of community. You’ll be reporting to the Senior Visitor Experience Officer, working closely with the colleagues in the Visitor Experience team and wider property to ensure the smooth delivery of the Summer of Play programme.

What you'll be doing:As an Active Outdoors Assistant, you’ll play a key role in bringing our Summer of Play to life. You’ll be the friendly face that welcomes visitors into the hub each day, helping them get started by scanning memberships, sharing Summer of Play maps, and pointing them towards the activities that will make their day special.

You’ll help keep the main play area running smoothly from 9:30am–5pm, setting up and packing away equipment, making sure everything is safe, tidy and ready to enjoy. You’ll spend time out in the play zones too — checking in with families, supporting free play, and keeping an eye on the condition of the kit and spaces.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being outdoors and loves connecting with people. You’ll chat with visitors to understand what they’re looking for, offer helpful suggestions, and make sure everyone feels confident exploring and playing in the countryside in their own way.

The National Trust is all about creating moments that stay with people. In this role, you’ll help spark curiosity, encourage active play, and support families to make the most of their visit. There may even be opportunities to share your own skills and ideas by helping to run simple, facilitated play sessions as part of the wider Summer of Play programme.
