Role Purpose
The Director of Crime & Intelligence is responsible for leading the strategic and operational delivery of Mitie's Retail Crime Strategy across the sector. The role operates as a key internal enabler, working closely with Strategic Client Directors (SCDs) and operational leaders to embed a consistent, intelligence-led approach to managing criminal threats, while also acting as an external ambassador for Mitie.
The postholder will ensure the effective identification, assessment, and management of criminal threats impacting clients, while enhancing service delivery, strengthening partnerships, and driving innovation. The role balances internal leadership and capability building with outward-facing representation to influence industry best practice and strengthen Mitie's position in the market.
Strategic Leadership & Internal Enablement
- Lead the delivery and continuous evolution of the Mitie Retail Crime Strategy across the sector.
- Act as a strategic partner to SCDs and operational leaders, providing expert advice and enabling the effective management of crime risk across contracts.
- Embed a consistent, intelligence-led approach to crime prevention across the Retail division.
External Leadership, Representation & Partnerships
- Act as a visible external leader representing Mitie across industry forums.
- Influence national retail crime strategy and best practice.
- Build partnerships with law enforcement, government and industry bodies.
- Lead intelligence-sharing initiatives to tackle retail crime.
- Strengthen Mitie's external profile, thought leadership, and market position.
- Act as escalation point for high-profile or sensitive client issues.
Crime & Intelligence Capability
- Support and guide Crime & Intelligence teams to deliver a consistent, high-quality service across all contracts.
- Ensure robust frameworks are in place to identify, assess, and manage criminal threats effectively.
- Drive standardisation and best practice to support operational excellence.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement innovative solutions, tools, and technologies to enhance crime prevention and threat management.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen internal capability and improve client outcomes.
Insight & Reporting
- Deliver high-quality Retail Crime Insights and analysis.Translate data into actionable operational and commercial outputs.
Horizon Scanning & Strategic Insight
- Lead proactive horizon scanning to identify emerging crime trends, risks, and external factors that may impact Mitie clients and the wider Retail sector.
- Translate external intelligence, industry developments, and partnership insights into actionable recommendations, ensuring key findings are fed back into sector strategy, operational delivery, and client solutions.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Support client requests, providing expert advice and tailored solutions to manage crime-related risks.
- Act as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and external clients, balancing commercial and operational priorities.
Business Development
- Support bids and tenders with subject matter expertise.
- Identify opportunities to grow Mitie's Retail Crime offering.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven senior leadership experience within crime, intelligence, or security environments (ideally within retail).
- Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching and developing colleagues, with a focus on building high-performing teams, strengthening capability, and fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and engagement.
- Proven ability to influence and support stakeholders and teams outside of direct line management, building strong relationships to drive alignment, accountability, and delivery of strategic crime and intelligence objectives.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering strategic initiatives end-to-end, with the credibility and confidence to influence, challenge and partner with very senior internal stakeholders (SCDs, SLT) and external clients, industry bodies and partners at executive level.
- Strong understanding of retail crime, threat assessment, and intelligence-led risk management.
- Experience representing organisations at industry forums and building strategic partnerships.
- Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for commercial and operational audiences.
