Service: Housing Solutions – Move On Team
Location: Brighton & Hove (hybrid working available)
Fixed Term for 1 year Do you want to help people move on from supported accommodation into safe, stable homes? Are you motivated by supporting people through transition and reducing homelessness?
Do you enjoy working collaboratively with partners to remove barriers and make things happen?
We are recruiting two Move On Officers to work in our Move On Team, supporting people to transition from supported accommodation into independent housing. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Housing Solutions and Tenancy Sustainment, as well as with supported housing providers and external partners, to help people prepare for and sustain their next home.
About the role
This is a people‑focused role where you’ll support households at a key point of change. You’ll help individuals and families understand their housing options, prepare for independent living, and move on successfully from supported accommodation. The work is varied, collaborative and outcomes‑driven, with a strong focus on preventing repeat homelessness.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting people to develop clear and realistic move‑on plans
- Working with supported accommodation providers to coordinate timely move‑on
- Helping households navigate housing pathways, including private rented and social housing options
- Identifying and addressing barriers to move‑on, working with partners to resolve them
- Providing early, practical support to help sustain new tenancies
- Keeping accurate records and contributing to personalised housing plans
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to tick every box, but you should bring:
- Experience of working with people facing housing, support or transition challenges
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with a wide range of people
- Confidence working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
- A strengths‑based, solution‑focused approach
- The ability to organise your work, manage priorities and follow things through
Why work with us
- Be part of a team making a real difference to homelessness outcomes in Brighton & Hove
- Work in a supportive, learning‑focused service that values reflective practice
- Opportunities to develop your skills and progress within Housing Solutions
- Flexible and hybrid working options
- A workplace committed to equality, diversity and inclusion
We welcome applications from people with lived experience and from under‑represented groups. If you’d like to discuss reasonable adjustments or flexible working, we’re happy to talk.

How to apply
Please read our Apply for a job at the council pages carefully. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you’ve submitted your application and at interview.
As part of your application, you will need to provide your education and career history and answer some application/shortlisting questions. Your answers to the application/shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our Shortlisting questions guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
AI advice for candidates
We are interested in hearing about your experience and skills in your own words. While we value people who know how to use AI, we ask that you minimise using it in your application.
We are keen to hear how your experience and skills align to our values and the skills and experience needed to perform well in our roles with clear real examples from you. To support you in this, we have guidance on using the STAR model which can help you ensure you are telling us your whole story. We also provide clarity on the skills we are looking for in our adverts and in the job description/person specification attached to each job advert.
All the applications we receive are read by at least two hiring managers and we do not use AI in this process. Our experience of reading applications is that those that have heavily used AI contain generic paragraphs that are strikingly similar to other applicants’ responses. This makes it extremely difficult to differentiate between applications, and doesn't give us enough evidence of your individual skills. There is a risk that we will therefore not be able to shortlist you. Instead, we recommend you ensure your application stands out by presenting clear examples of your actual skills and experiences in your own words.
Additional information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
