About the role

What does the average day look like?

In this role, no two days are the same. You could be reviewing detailed mining reports one morning to ensure they meet industry standards, then advising internal teams on mining risks or supporting responses to planning applications in the afternoon.

You'll carry out site visits, including surface and underground mine inspections, to assess conditions first-hand, as well as respond to and support the resolution of mining-related incidents when they arise. Alongside this, you'll work closely with project teams to provide assurance, ensure alignment with standards, and manage a high volume of technical work with competing priorities.

A little bit about the team...

You'll be joining a close-knit and highly specialised geotechnical and mining team made up of a Head of Geotechnical, a Principal Engineer, several Senior Mining Engineers, an Engineer, and a Technical Clerk. The team works collaboratively to provide expert advice and assurance across the business, combining deep technical knowledge with practical field experience to manage mining-related risk effectively.

Next Steps

CV shortlisting will take place after the advert closes, with interviews planned from the week commencing 13 th July, subject to business needs. Early applications are encouraged, as we may close the advert early due to high application volumes.

We encourage you to review our Safety Vision , as safety is an important part of the culture at Network Rail

All external offers of employment are conditional upon satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks.

Your experience and skills

Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage a busy and varied workload. A chartered status (e.g. Chartered Minerals Surveyor) or experience in related infrastructure sectors would be an advantage, but not essential.
