We are seeking to recruit an experienced Paralegal to join our Family department on a 12 month fixed term contract. (There is the possibility that this position could lead to a training contract at a later date subject to an internal process.)

The role will consist of assisting fee earners with case preparation, file and document management, processing evidence, dealing with initial enquiries from members of the public, assisting with legal aid applications, legal aid billing, attending court and conferences. Liaising with the department’s Personal Assistant and providing additional support to the Legal Secretary within the department as required.

The experience gained in this role will constitute “Qualifying Work Experience” for those qualifying through the SQE route and there is likely to be an opportunity to progress to a Training Contract for those qualifying through the LPC route after 12 months.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting fee earners with case work
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries
  • Undertaking some legal research
  • Client contact
  • Assisting with the preparation of bundles of documents for Court
  • Attending court to issue proceedings and file documentation
  • Assisting with printing, collating and ordering documentation from outsourced workers
  • General administration and providing financial and billing assistance
  • Electronic filing

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Good legal experience and qualifications
  • Knowledge of legal aid procedures and family law are desirable
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills are essential for the post

  • have excellent communication skills
  • have a flexible and professional attitude
  • have the ability to work on confidential matters and under pressure, together with a keen eye for detail
