Position: Heritage Engagement Worker
Pay: £14.96 per hour (£29,172.00 per annum)
Location: YMCA Norfolk Offices, Aylsham Road, Norwich with an element of work across the county
Contract Type: Fixed Term for 2 years
Hours per week: 37.5 hours

YMCA Norfolk is celebrating an incredible milestone, 170 years of supporting communities across Norfolk, and were looking for a passionate, creative Heritage Engagement Officer to lead an ambitious, high-profile project that will capture, preserve and share our story like never before.
Belonging Through Time - YMCA Norfolk at 170, is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will deliver a 2-year project to uncover, preserve, share and celebrate 170 years of YMCA Norfolks social history across the county.
This is your chance to shape a project that connects the past with the presentwhile empowering people to tell their stories and build new skills for the future.
About the role
This is an exciting, hands-on role where no two days will be the same. Youll lead the delivery of a dynamic 2-year heritage programme, working with colleagues, partners, and communities across Norfolk to create inspiring outputs including:
- Public exhibitions across the county
- A 170-year YMCA Norfolk history book
- Podcasts and a heritage video documentary
- A primary schools education resource pack
- Community heritage walks and events
Youll also co-create and co-produce activities with the children, families, and young people we serve, helping them develop skills, confidence and a stronger sense of belonging.
What you'll be doing
- Managing and delivering the full heritage project from start to finish
- Engaging communities to explore and share YMCA Norfolks history
- Designing and delivering exhibitions, events, and learning activities
- Developing partnerships with organisations like museums and community groups
- Capturing and digitising archive materials to professional standards
- Supporting participants to tell their stories through creative media
- Monitoring impact, evaluating outcomes, and reporting to funders
Youll play a key role in ensuring participants dont just learn about history, they help shape it.
About you
Were looking for someone who is creative, organised and people-focused, with a passion for heritage and community engagement.
You'll bring:
- Strong project management skills and the ability to deliver to deadlines
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience delivering successful projects and engaging communities
- Knowledge of heritage practices and inclusive approaches
- A genuine passion for working with young people and diverse communities
Experience in the heritage sector or working with vulnerable young people is desirable, but your enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to making a difference matter most.
