Job Overview

Onshore Technical is currently recruiting for an experienced Pre-Construction Project Manager to support a key role within the UK gas infrastructure sector.

This opportunity is available on either a contract or permanent basis and would suit an experienced Project Manager, Pre-Construction Manager, or Senior Site Manager looking to move into a pre-construction-focused role.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Operations Manager, supporting bids, tenders, planning, programme development and early-stage project strategy across a range of gas infrastructure projects.

The Role

As Pre-Construction Project Manager, you will lead and support pre-construction activities from initial enquiry through to project handover. You will be responsible for developing robust delivery strategies, identifying risks, coordinating technical inputs, supporting pricing and ensuring that tender submissions are planned and managed effectively.

This is a key role for someone with strong contractor-side experience in high-pressure gas construction, civils and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support bid and tender activities across gas infrastructure projects
  • Manage tender timelines, deliverables and submission requirements
  • Develop project programmes from first principles
  • Produce NEC4-compliant tender programmes
  • Review technical documentation and identify project risks
  • Manage and respond to Technical Queries (TQs)
  • Coordinate subcontractor input and support pricing activities
  • Support pre-construction planning, methodology and sequencing
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager and wider delivery teams
  • Support project handover from tender stage into delivery
  • Provide input into design phase planning and buildability reviews
  • Ensure tenders are realistic, compliant and commercially robust

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience within the UK high-pressure gas sector
  • Strong contractor-side background in gas construction and civils projects
  • Experience supporting bids, tenders and pre-construction delivery
  • Strong understanding of NEC4 contracts and programme requirements
  • Experience developing tender programmes from first principles
  • Good technical understanding of gas infrastructure works
  • Strong communication, planning and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to identify risks, manage technical queries and support commercial teams
  • Background in site delivery would be beneficial

Relevant Project Experience

Experience across any of the following would be highly desirable:

  • ILI digs
  • NARC works
  • AGI rebuilds
  • PRI stream modifications
  • Boiler house installations
  • High-pressure gas infrastructure projects
  • Gas construction and civils schemes
  • Works for clients such as Cadent, National Gas or similar gas network operators
