Some of our fantastic schools in Bury, Manchester are looking for SEN Teaching Assistants to work with children aged 4 - 19, focusing on both 1:1 and small group work. You’ll be supporting a wide range of learning needs including undiagnosed Autism, Social, Emotional Mental Health, children with limited speech and children with sensory and/ or physical needs. What’s most important is these children are supported by someone caring, nurturing and attentive to their needs.

As some of these pupils are vulnerable and have additional needs, you’ll be working with the teacher to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children and their learning. You must therefore be a highly motivated and nurturing teaching assistant with a flexible approach and be able to work in both 1:1 and group settings.

The ideal SEN teaching assistant for this role should:

  • Have experience, or a passion for working with students with additional needs, especially Autism
  • Have knowledge or understanding of how to support children with SEN and SEMH
  • Be flexible, proactive and patient
  • Be nurturing in their approaching and interventions
  • Be able to communicate effectively within a team
  • Have a Background in Education, Care, Social work, Psychology or Drama, as these are very transferable.
