About the Role
The Senior Finance Business Partner (SFBP) acts as a senior source of professional expertise within the Editorial and Product finance team. Reporting to the Head of Editorial & Product Finance, you are responsible for the execution of financial plans that support the newsroom and product development.
This is a fantastic fixed term opportunity to work in a high-impact, "hands-on" role. You will be responsible for performing month-end tasks and management accounting activities while providing essential input into the annual budget, quarterly reforecasts, and 3/5-year strategic plans. Your work ensures the Head of Editorial & Product Finance has the robust data and analysis required to lead the department’s financial strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Budgeting & Reforecasting: Execute the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly reforecasts for Editorial and Product. You will work closely with stakeholders to ensure submissions are accurate, timely, and reflect operational requirements.
- Long-term Planning: Support the delivery of 3/5-year plans by providing detailed trend analysis, historical data reviews, and modeling assumptions for future headcount and operational spend.
- Commercial Solutions: Monitor performance developments in your areas to develop constructive, commercial solutions that enhance business performance.
Month-End & Management Accounts
- Month-End Execution: Responsible for the delivery of specific month-end tasks, including the preparation and posting of journals, accruals, and prepayments. You ensure the underlying accounting records for Editorial and Product are accurate and robust.
- Variance Analysis: Perform detailed variance analysis of monthly results against budget and forecast, providing the "so what" behind the numbers to the Head of Editorial & Product Finance.
- Operational Accuracy: Maintain the accuracy of the P&L and Balance Sheet for your assigned pillars, ensuring all transactions are coded correctly and reconciled to an audit-ready standard.
Business Partnering
- Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with business stakeholders (Editorial and Product leads), understanding their requirements and providing the financial data they need to manage their budgets effectively.
- Payroll & Headcount Tracking: Maintain forensic oversight of the Editorial payroll, tracking vacancies and headcount changes.
- Non Staff Costs: Maintain forensic oversight of the Editorial Non Staff costs including (but not limited to) contributor, retainers, info and fees libel costs etc
Essential Skills
- Professional Qualification: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
- Technical: Proven experience in the execution of month-end management accounts and complex balance sheet reconciliations.
- Planning Capability: Competence in building and managing budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-range (3/5-year) financial models.
- Commercial Acumen: Ability to act as a senior source of expertise, identifying solutions that add shareholder value.
- Stakeholder Influence: Strong communication skills with the ability to build constructive relationships and explain financial concepts to non-financial partners.
- Precision: Highest standards of accuracy and precision, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities during peak planning cycle.
