Support Young People Who Need It Most

We are currently recruiting Alternative Learning Support Mentors to work within specialist education settings across Bath, supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH), Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), behavioural challenges and additional learning needs.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and creating positive outcomes through trust, consistency and meaningful relationships.

The Role

As an Alternative Learning Support Mentor, you will support students both inside and outside of the classroom, helping them overcome barriers to education, improve emotional regulation and re-engage with learning.

You will become a trusted adult and positive role model for young people who may have experienced trauma, exclusion, anxiety, behavioural challenges or difficulties accessing mainstream education.

Every day will be different, but your focus will remain the same:

Providing stability, encouragement and support to young people who need it most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs).
  • Assisting students with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
  • Promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Supporting engagement with education and learning.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) and pastoral teams.
  • Encouraging confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Using trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches to mentoring.
  • Providing consistent support for vulnerable and at-risk students.

Who We Are Looking For

Experience working with children or vulnerable young people is highly desirable, however we also welcome applicants from transferable backgrounds.
