Temporary fixed term for 12 months, Full time, 37 hours per week.
We’re looking for a creative, experienced marketing and communications professional to join our Corporate Communications Team as a Senior Communications Officer.
The role sits within the Corporate Comms Team, where you will support the development of the Council’s communications strategy and plans for the Fostering service. The role will work closely with members of the Fostering Rotherham Team and other members of the Children and Young People’s Service directorate.
Main duties of the post include managing the Fostering Rotherham social media channels, website and other digital platforms; plan, deliver and manage a range of marketing campaigns; curate and create a range of engaging content including graphics, photos and videos; and write press releases and manage media relations around Fostering for Rotherham Council.

The successful candidate will have
- Experience developing and implementing strategies and plans for the delivery of marketing, internal and external communications, media relations, e-communications and social media.
- Demonstrate the ability to create a range of content, including, but not limited to, videography, photography, audio recording, design, and copywriting, that can be used to tell engaging, lived experience of our foster carers, children, and members of staff.
- Demonstrate the ability to advise and manage a range of channels and social media platforms which support the delivery of these services.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships both internally with officers and councillors, and externally with partners, print and broadcast media and suppliers of commissioned services e.g. print, advertising, PR and creative services, photography.
- Able to ensure the results of effective analytical and evaluation techniques and tools are used to implement best practices and ongoing improvements to the services provided by the Fostering Team.
- Relevant experience related to advising and supporting councillors with the continued development and accuracy of e-bulletins, newsletters and other relevant marketing material.
- Demonstrate the ability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and plans to effectively manage high profile media issues.
- Ability to work closely with the Council’s online services function to ensure a consistent and co-ordinate approach to managing e-communications and web pages in line with the Council’s priorities and strategies.
