Clinical Fellow in General Surgery
Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a registrar grade surgeon (12 months fixed term) to join our highly motivated general surgical team at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust.
We provide GI, general and acute hospital services to approximately 470,000 people in Bath and the surrounding areas and treat more than 250 colorectal cancers per year.
We offer treatment for benign upper GI disease and all colorectal disease in a unit performing advanced laparoscopic surgery. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join a team of fourteen GI consultants and twelve registrars and this post is particularly suited to those with previous experience at registrar level who wish to enhance their specialist experience. The department has a growing quality improvement, research and audit unit and involvement in research is actively encouraged.
Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow (ST3-8 equivalent), in General and GI Surgery. This post is available from August 2026 for twelve months with an option to extend this by mutual agreement. This post would be most suited to those with previous experience at registrar level who wish to enhance their CV and gain more experience in GI surgery. The post holder will participate in the general surgical registrar on call rota at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, which is currently 1 in 12 with good junior support including SHO and F1 rotas.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be attached to one of the GI firms, Emergency Surgical Ambulatory Care and take part in the on call rota (currently a 1 in 12 with banding supplement accordingly). The successful applicant will be involved in service improvement and further development of our acute services.
The GI unit consists of one UGI and two LGI firms although there is much cross-cover across the whole unit. We offer surgery for benign upper GI disease and manage the full range of colorectal disease including cancer, IBD and pelvic floor problems.
We are at the forefront of the increasingly important ESAC service with four consultants who offer clinics and theatres for semi-urgent admissions including acute gall bladder disease.
