Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).
The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Ebbsfleet and Stratford International.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client 'HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Technician - Inspection & Maintenance

Salary: £43816 + OLA £1600
Hours: Full time
Shift Pattern: Days, Nights and Weekends (Safety Critical Role)

This is more than a maintenance role. As a Technician - Inspection & Maintenance , you'll be at the heart of keeping critical infrastructure safe, reliable and performing at its best.
You'll work alongside experienced leaders, take ownership of your work, and have the opportunity to step up and lead when it matters most. If you thrive in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment and take pride in doing things the right way, this is the role for you.
What you'll do
You'll play a key role in supporting the Team Leader to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality work. From inspections and faulting to maintenance and renewals, you'll be hands-on and fully involved in keeping operations running smoothly.
You'll ensure work is completed to the highest standards, deadlines are met, and safety is never compromised. Your attention to detail and commitment to doing things properly will make a real difference every day.
Acting as Team Leader When Required
This role offers real responsibility. When required, you'll take the lead and guide the team to success by:
¿ Setting up and maintaining safe systems of work
¿ Leading and coordinating activities on site
¿ Monitoring quality and ensuring all work meets required standards
¿ Confirming team competency and readiness for tasks
¿ Overseeing the safe use of vehicles, tools, plant and equipment
¿ Creating and maintaining a safe working environment for all, including contractors
You'll be trusted to make decisions, take ownership and lead with confidence.
Your experience and skills
What You Bring
Technical Knowledge
¿ Experience with permanent way inspection, maintenance, faulting and renewals
¿ Strong understanding of relevant standards, procedures and safe systems of work
What you'll need
¿ Proven experience working within safe systems of work
¿ Ability to organise, control and deliver work efficiently
¿ A strong safety mindset and the ability to influence others
¿ Confidence leading, motivating and directing a team
¿ Clear and effective communication skills
¿ High attention to detail and commitment to quality
¿ Relevant competencies (or willingness to achieve them)
¿ NVQ Level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) or solid practical experience
¿ Full UK driving licence
Bonus Skills (Not Essential, But Great to Have)
¿ Experience within rail or infrastructure environments
¿ Previous experience mentoring or developing others
¿ Understanding of safety-critical operations
¿ A proactive approach to continuous improvement

Outdoor work in all weather conditions
Must live within 60 minutes of your depot
This is a safety-critical role, requiring a medical assessment and drug and alcohol screening. Flexibility is essential due to shift patterns.

All prospective candidates will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced
