Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).

The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client 'HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Technician - Mechanical & Engineering

Location: Singlewell

Salary: £43,816 + Outer London Allowance £1600

Shift Pattern: Days, Nights and Weekends (Safety Critical Role)

About the role

We're looking for a hands¿on, adaptable Technician with a passion for engineering, safety and teamwork. In this frontline role, you'll support a Team Leader, get involved in a wide range of maintenance activities, and help keep critical infrastructure operating safely and reliably.

What you'll do

In this key post, you'll work closely with a Team Leader to organise, support and motivate a specialist Infrastructure Maintenance team. You'll help ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with strict technical standards.

You'll also get involved directly in all types of maintenance activities - from renewals and inspections to faulting and diagnostic work. No two days will look the same.

Acting as Team Leader When Required

There will be times when you step up and take the lead. This means:

  • Setting up and maintaining safety arrangements

  • Checking and controlling the quality of work

  • Ensuring staff have the right competencies for their tasks

  • Making sure vehicles, tools, plant and equipment are fit for purpose

This is a crucial frontline position that requires resilience, confidence and strong decision¿making. Working on a shift basis, you'll maintain high standards at any time of the day - and in any weather.

Your experience and skills

What You Bring

Technical Background in ONE of the Following

  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Maintenance

  • Air Conditioning (HVAC)

  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems

What you'll need

  • Solid understanding of electrical principles

  • Willingness to learn new skills and grow your technical knowledge

  • Experience promoting safe working practices

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

  • A full UK driving licence

Bonus Skills (Not Essential, But Great to Have!)

  • Knowledge of the railway industry

  • Experience mentoring or developing team members

  • Ability to share lessons learned and promote continuous improvement

  • Understanding of operational railway environments

Shifts include days, nights, and weekends.

Outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Must live within 60 minutes of your depot.

This is a safety-critical role, which means you'll need to pass a medical assessment and be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Your role will involve working days, nights and weekends, so flexibility is necessary.

All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced
