An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Environmental Sustainability unit, working within the Natural Environment team based at the Civic Office. The ES-NE is responsible for co-ordinating and driving activities to support carbon reduction and nature recovery across the city, in line with Doncaster’s Environment and Sustainability strategy. This role will focus on agro-forestry projects, delivering initiatives to support agricultural landowners in increasing hedgerows, shelterbelts and tree planting schemes to support the delivery of Doncaster’s “One Million Trees” challenge.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Trees and Woodland Development Officer to increase the amount of tree cover in Doncaster by co-ordinating planting projects on public and privately owned land. You will support and facilitate agro-forestry projects of various types and sizes, applying appropriate technical and regulatory requirements to deliver works across all project management stages of planting. You will contribute to the development of a Trees, Woodland and Hedgerow Strategy for Doncaster.

Due to the nature of the role applicants with a farming background and/or knowledge and experience of directly working with landowners in an agricultural setting are desired.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders, providing advice, support and positive engagement through multiple avenues to ensure projects are successfully delivered efficiently, effectively and to specifications set. You will need to be resourceful, reliable, thorough, enthusiastic, flexible, and resilient. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team and be able to engage and motivate others.

In return for your contribution, we offer

  • Competitive leave entitlement
  • Generous local government pension scheme
  • Wellbeing support and staff networks
  • Development and training opportunities
  • Staff discounts and benefits schemes
  • More information on benefits can be found in the attached benefits booklet.

Please review the job summary and profile and demonstrate in your application how you meet the required criteria.

Shortlisting will take place week commencing 8th June 2026 and it is anticipated that interviews will be held week commencing 22nd June 2026.
