Job overview

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Assistant Practitioner to join our specialist ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) Eating Disorders Team. You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care under the supervision of qualified AHP clinicians, supporting both therapeutic interventions and service delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly multidisciplinary service supporting children and young people with ARFID.

Main duties of the job

To work under the direction of qualified dietetic and occupational therapy staff in the performance of specific tasks for an individual or group of patients as part of their treatment programmes.

  • Work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with service users, their families/carers, the MDT and wider and health and social care professionals
  • Assist qualified dietetic and occupational therapy staff with the assessment of complex cases and ongoing management of caseload.
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate agreed treatment plans escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Use a dietary analysis programme to produce reports on dietary intake
  • Provide education and guidance to patients, carers and staff as appropriate
  • Support onward referral and signposting to external agencies, services and community resources, in line with local pathways.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care/mental health OR Apprenticeship in H&SC/mental health L5 OR Equivalent Qualification at L5 or above in a related subject

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with groups of people
  • Ability to work both independently and under supervision

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working within mental health

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • An understanding of Occupational Therapy and the importance of meaningful occupations.
  • Health and safety risk awareness

Other

Essential criteria

  • Ability to travel independently
