About the RSE
The Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) is Scotland’s National Academy. Through the expertise of our Fellowship and the work of our staff, we bring together knowledge, ideas, and people to help address the most important issues facing Scotland and the wider world.
Our Fellowship of over 1,800 individuals spans academia, business, public service, the arts, and civil society. Alongside this, the RSE delivers a wide-ranging programme of research support, policy advice, public engagement, and international collaboration.
We are a collaborative, purpose-driven organisation with a strong commitment to supporting our people and promoting a positive and inclusive working culture.
Our small team is about to become a wee bit bigger. You may spot several roles advertised across the RSE this summer. These opportunities reflect investment in our people and future priorities as we grow our ambition to make knowledge useful.
About the role
We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Senior AV and IT Officer to support the delivery of high-quality IT, AV, and cybersecurity across the RSE. Working closely with the IT Manager, you will play a key role in keeping our systems, technology, and event spaces running smoothly.
This is a varied, hands-on role that combines IT help-desk support, AV delivery for events (including livestreaming), and expert user support across our core business systems. You will act as an advanced user of platforms such as CiviCRM, SharePoint, BreatheHR, and Asana providing support, documentation, and training to colleagues across the organisation.
You will also contribute to wider IT, AV, AI, and cybersecurity projects, support joiners and leavers with hardware and system access, and help ensure data accuracy, resilience, and GDPR compliance across RSE systems. The role requires occasional out-of-hours work to support events, with time off in lieu provided.
About you
· Strong CRM capabilities, including building queries, reports, and exports, improving data quality, and enabling users to work confidently and effectively with the CRM and its data.
· A good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and integrated business systems (e.g. HR and project management tools), and the ability to configure and support these as organisational needs evolve.
· Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical colleagues and deliver one-to-one or smaller group system training.
· Practical AV skills, including setting up and supporting event and meeting technology, troubleshooting issues, and working calmly in live environments.
· Strong problem-solving skills, with a structured and proactive approach to diagnosing issues and identifying improvements.
· Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, manage competing demands, and work independently.
· Advanced knowledge of CiviCRM or comparable CRM platforms
· Experience supporting livestreamed or hybrid events
· Experience working in a venue or events-focused organisation.
Rather than being an expert in everything, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who demonstrate strong capabilities in CRM and core business systems.
This role is ideal for someone who is service-oriented, technically confident, and motivated by helping others get the best from technology.
