Housing Disrepair Paralegal

Canford Law are seeking a Housing Disrepair Paralegal to join our Bournemouth or Manchester office. This is a full-time, hybrid role offering excellent hands-on experience for candidates wishing to build a career in housing law and litigation. The successful candidate will support fee earners and the housing disrepair team by handling client enquiries, gathering evidence, and setting up new matters on the case management system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the fee earner/solicitor on a full caseload and support case preparation.
  • Make outbound calls to potential clients to obtain instructions and develop leads.
  • Handle inbound telephone enquiries in a professional, empathetic and client-focused manner.
  • Answer client questions and address concerns relating to housing conditions and disrepair.
  • Liaise with potential clients to obtain detailed information on the nature, history and reporting of disrepair issues.
  • Assess information and evidence provided to assist in determining prospects of success (under supervision).
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of all client interactions and case updates.
  • Open and set up new housing disrepair claims on the case management system.
  • Liaise with third parties and provide updates where required.
  • Support fee earners and supervisors with administrative tasks and case preparation (e.g., document collation, chronology preparation, evidence requests).

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a confident, professional telephone manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping and document handling.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency using computer systems and willingness to learn legal case management software.
  • Good problem-solving ability and a professional, client-focused approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and take direction from fee earners and supervisors.
  • Previous housing disrepair experience or exposure to housing law matters.
  • Previous property or litigation experience in a similar paralegal or legal assistant role.
  • Experience using legal case management systems and document management tools.
  • Paralegal qualification or legal support experience (e.g., LLB, paralegal certificate, CILEX study in progress) is advantageous.
  • Experience conducting client interviews and drafting initial correspondence.
  • Right to work in the UK.
