Balfour Beatty plc
About The Role
Job Title: Section Engineer
Location: Elgin
Project Type: Civils / Energy
Company: Balfour Beatty Group
Balfour Beatty is delivering the civils package on the BBNP project, a major energy infrastructure scheme in the North of Scotland that plays a critical role in strengthening the UK’s electricity network and supporting long‑term energy resilience. This is a high‑profile project within Balfour Beatty’s energy portfolio, offering a stable and long‑term opportunity for civil engineering professionals who want to work on nationally significant infrastructure.
The scope of works includes the full range of enabling and permanent civil engineering activities required to support complex electrical installations. This covers bulk and detailed earthworks, reinforced concrete foundations and structures for major electrical assets, cable trenches and ducting, drainage infrastructure, and the construction of internal access roads, pavements, and hardstandings. The project also involves temporary works, site logistics, fencing and security infrastructure, and close coordination with electrical installation and commissioning teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
Joining the BBNP project gives candidates the opportunity to develop their skills on a technically challenging scheme, gain valuable experience within the energy sector, and build a long‑term career with a Tier 1 contractor that has a strong pipeline of future infrastructure and energy projects across Scotland and the wider UK.

- Assisting with the preparation and implementation of method statements, risk assessments, and temporary works
- Coordinating subcontractors and direct labour to ensure efficient and safe site operations
- Working closely with the Site Agent, Sub Agent, and wider project team to resolve technical queries and maintain progress
- Monitoring progress against programme and supporting the identification and mitigation of risks and constraints
- Ensuring full compliance with Balfour Beatty’s health, safety, quality, and environmental standards
- Contributing to a positive, collaborative site culture aligned with Balfour Beatty values and behaviours
