Naval Architect

Key Responsibilities

- Perform seafastening design and verification for vessel mobilisations and offshore operations, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, class requirements and project-specific criteria.

- Carry out the structural design and analysis of marine and offshore structures and equipment, applying FEA techniques and hand calculations in accordance with applicable standards.

- Provide on-site engineering support during vessel mobilisations and equipment installation, including attendance at fabrication facilities, shipyards and offshore locations as required.

- Support with preparing proposals for project bids, including scope definition, deliverables, timeframes and cost time resource.

- Provide guidance and technical support to graduate and junior engineers, assisting with their development and ensuring quality output.

- Liaise directly with clients and support the project leads to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget.

- Support with checking and quality control on detailed drawings and engineering reports.

- Complete on-site surveys, including photos, hand measurements and 3D scans, and process the data for clash checks and design assistance.

- Produce and take responsibility for engineering calculations, technical reports, and procedural documentation.

Requirements

- Degree in Naval Architecture or another related engineering discipline.

- 2+ Years experience within the offshore sector, with a focus on structural engineering, particularly offshore equipment and seafastening design & verification.

- Experience with class rules for offshore and vessel engineering.

- Experience using FEA software for structural design and verification.

- Chartered engineer (or working towards it) with RINA, IMarEST, or equivalent.

- Experience with design software such as AutoCad and Rhino3D.

- Knowledge of marine sectors such as offshore wind.

- Communication skills: able to produce well-structured engineering reports and technical documentation, clearly communicate ideas and findings, presentation skills.

- Problem solving: be able to apply naval architect principles and engineering judgement, using both first principles and software where required.

- Project management: capable of organising and prioritising workloads to ensure effective and timely delivery of work.

- Adaptability: be comfortable working across a wide variety of project types and scales, be able to react quickly to new developments within existing projects or new enquiries.

- Professional development: be committed to professional development and, where applicable, progress towards Chartered Engineer status.

- Client focus: understand the importance of developing and maintaining good client relationships and represent the company professionally.

- Adhere to processes and controls established to safeguard health, safety, and welfare.
