Bank Pharmacist
Location: Fitzwilliam Hospital, Peterborough
Contract Type: Bank
Hours: Ad hoc as required (typically 09:00–17:00 with a 30‑minute lunch break)
Fitzwilliam Hospital is seeking a flexible and experienced Bank Pharmacist to provide ad hoc cover to support clinical and operational continuity within an elective hospital environment. The post holder will deliver high‑quality pharmacy services to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines, contributing positively to patient experience and service delivery.
The role includes medicines reconciliation, clinical prescription review, discharge planning, and providing expert pharmaceutical advice to patients and healthcare professionals. Flexibility is essential to support periods of staff absence or increased activity. Experience using Clinical Medication Management (CMM) JAC software and familiarity with Maxims is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver patient‑centred pharmaceutical care using a systematic and risk‑based approach.
- Identify, prioritise, and resolve pharmaceutical care issues to ensure safe and effective medicine use.
- Undertake medicines history taking, medicines reconciliation, and ongoing prescription monitoring.
- Review medical records and liaise with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide advice on medication selection, dosing adjustments, interactions, and optimisation.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication‑related incidents.
- Accurately document ADRs in patient records, prescriptions, and discharge correspondence, and counsel patients on future precautions.
Discharge Planning
- Conduct pharmaceutical reviews prior to discharge to ensure continuity of care.
- Ensure discharge prescriptions are accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate.
- Support patient education, adherence, and understanding of their medicines.
- Review patients’ own medicines for return, reuse, or destruction in line with policy.
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, accurate, and legal dispensing and checking of prescribed medicines.
- Dispense and clinically check Controlled Drugs in accordance with legislation and policy.
- Review inpatient prescription charts for clinical appropriateness and cost‑effectiveness.
- Provide professional medicines advice and counselling to patients.
- Use pharmacy systems effectively, including CMM (JAC) and Maxims.
- Work in compliance with Ramsay Health Care Medicines Management policies and GPhC standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and information security at all times.
- Adhere to health and safety requirements and complete all mandatory training.

Essential Qualifications
- MPharm or equivalent Degree in Pharmacy.
- Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Good IT and customer service skills.
Desirable
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience.
- Proficiency in CMM (JAC).
- Familiarity with Maxims.
