Job Overview

Choosing a career in Pharmacy at the RUH will open many doors for you. Our Band 4 to band 5 pharmacy technician pathway includes:

  • A 6 week supernumerary period (including induction and competencies)
  • Progression through the nationally recognised APTUK Foundation Practice Framework for newly qualified pharmacy technicians and a gap analysis for more experienced employees
  • A comprehensive education package allowing for accredited checking pharmacy technician status
  • Mentorship and support
  • Ability to gain experience of a variety of technical specialties
  • Opportunities for further Pharmacy academic courses, or non-pharmacy formal accreditations that will support the pharmacy provision, utilisting the apprenticeship levy, up to level 7 masters degree, after at least 1 year in post
  • Consideration of flexible working conditions and part time hours

Main duties of the job

As a GPhC registered pharmacy technician, the band role will involve:

  • Dispensing and checking of pharmaceuticals for inpatients, outpatients, discharge medicines, stock items, controlled drugs and clinical trials
  • Project work using the Bath Improvement System framework and engagement with Improving Together
  • Offer supervision and training to pre-registration pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants
  • Offering professional pharmaceutical advice to staff and patients
  • Working on the wards with our nursing colleagues
  • An opportunity to rotate through several areas of our Pharmacy to broaden your knowledge and experience

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
