Position Overview

Ithaca Energy is accepting applications for the position of Health & Safety Advisor (Wells and Drilling), located in our Aberdeen Office.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, Wells, Projects & Decommissioning. The Health & Safety Advisor will provide dedicate HSE support to our UK welll operations. This is a pivotal role in ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of drilling, completions, interventions and well abandoment activites. The successful candidate will work closely with Drilling & Wells, Well Engineering, Projects and Offshore Execution teams to embed a high-performance safety culture, uphold regulatory compliance and strengthen operational risk controls.


Responsibilities

Operational Support & Risk Management

  • Proactively engage with well engineering and execution teams to identify and manage operational risks throughout the well lifecycle.
  • Facilitate/support formal risk reviews (HAZIDs, HAZOPS, SIMOPS), ensuring full integration of HSE considerations, MAH controls, and contractor responsibilities.
  • Conduct regular offshore visits to support risk management at the worksite, observe critical activities and verify compliance with safety systems and wells HSE assurance plans.
  • Provide HSE input into operational readiness reviews, rig start-ups, and Go/No-Go decisions for each well.
  • Facilitate and support well-operational risk assessments and compliance throughout operations.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Lead and support high-quality investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes—technical, organisational, and behavioural—are identified and addressed.
  • Facilitate learning reviews and ensure findings are effectively shared across the business and with contractors.
  • Monitor action tracking through Synergi and ensure timely close-out with verification steps.

HSE Planning & Assurance

  • Assist in developing the annual Drilling & Wells HSE plan, including objectives, KPI tracking, and assurance activities.
  • Support internal and contractor audits, including offshore HSE inspections, bridging document compliance checks, and interface reviews.
  • Monitor contractor HSE performance and verify alignment with internal standards and contractual obligations.
  • Deliver a Wells HSE Assurance Plan for each Well Operation in support of the submitted Well / Combined Notification.

Training, Communication & Engagement

  • Deliver HSE onboarding and briefings tailored to well operations personnel and contractors.
  • Promote visible safety leadership at the wellsite.
  • Actively participate in contractor HSE engagement, including audits, forums, and performance reviews.
  • Influence contractor adherence to bridging documents and ensure alignment through regular compliance checks.

Regulatory & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines.
  • Accompany Regulatory inspectors during inspections/visits and support documentation readiness and response.
  • Track and report leading and lagging indicators and contribute to the HSE performance dashboards for well operations.

Well Process Safety Integration

  • Act as a process safety advocate across drilling and well activities, ensuring consistent application of barrier management principles and the IOGP Tiered Well Control Incident framework.
  • Participate in Bowtie risk assessments and lead or support Safety Critical Element (SCE) verification activities.
  • Work with discipline leads to track and analyse Well Process Safety KPIs (e.g., barrier challenges, loss of containment precursors, process deviations).
  • Support implementation of safety-critical task analysis and human factors integration in well planning and execution.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate and timely data in Synergi, including observations, actions, and incident reports.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to HSE procedures, systems, and practices related to drilling and well activities.
  • Participate in contractor engagement forums and cross-functional improvement initiatives.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Support the Emergency Response Organisation, including participation in exercises and duty rota if required.
  • Review and contribute to bridging documents and wellsite-specific ER plans.


Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent preferred) in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Substantial HSE competency in well operations, including exposure to drilling, completions, well interventions, and abandonment activities.
  • Strong technical understanding of offshore well operations and the ability to translate HSE expectations into practical support across planning, execution, and close-out phases.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HSE elements of a well delivery process, from planning through execution to final close-out.
  • Familiarity with UK regulatory frameworks and industry best practices specific to well operations.
  • Working knowledge of process safety as it applies to well operations, including barrier philosophy, Bowtie analysis, Safety Critical Element identification, and MAH controls.
  • Understanding of Safety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA) and Human Factors integration in wellsite tasks.
  • Familiarity with Synergi or similar reporting systems.
  • Trained in incident investigation methodology.
  • Valid offshore medical and survival (BOSIET, MIST) for regular offshore visits.
