As our Support Worker, you’ll be at the heart of supporting our customers who have complex needs to develop their skills to live more independently in the community. You’ll make a big difference each day as you help our customers achieve their hopes and aspirations. Amazing we know!
Typical day as our Support Worker
- Assisting customers with practical, daily living tasks to develop their independence, helping them to achieve the goals, aspirations and outcomes documented in their support plans.
- Our customers’ needs include Mental Health/emotional well-being needs and substance abuse issues. You may also work with customers with an acquired brain injury and those with high-risk behaviours, such as hoarding and self-neglect.
- Helping customers with daily living activities such as making meals, shopping, budgeting, maintaining their tenancy and moving onto independent accommodation if they are able.
- Carrying out risk assessments, support planning, goal setting and regular reviews.
- Cuppas, chats and catch ups. There’s no rushing from one customer to the next here! Plenty of time to work together with colleagues too.

You bring
- Passion to support our customers to live their best life, working together with an eye for detail
- Experience of caring for others, you may have worked in care before or have experience of caring for others such as family members or children
- The ability to work on your own initiative, remain calm under pressure and have a resilient approach
- Recognise every customer is different and you’re able to adopt a flexible, personal approach, listening to customers to understand their needs
- To get from A to B, you’ll need a vehicle insured for business purposes. The great news is that we’ll pay your mileage!

Our team
You’ll join Eddy and our Empowering Independence West Cornwall (EI West) team, we’re super passionate about what we do! We’re really proud of the support we give to customers to reach their goals and about celebrating their achievements and numerous successful outcomes. The team are particularly good at helping customers get any benefits they are entitled to and will be happy to give you tips so you can help your customers in a similar way.
Some of us have been with Home Group a long time including Eddy who has been with Home Group for 28 years. There are 11 of us in the team, plus 4 of us who work across teams including our Health Coach.
Job details
- Flexible working hours (or we’re open to agreeing a work pattern with you)
- Where we’re flexible with you, we do need to meet the needs of our customers. That may mean adapting your start or finishing times on occasion.
- Some weekend work may be required on a rotated basis, but we ask for volunteers first!/ Office cover on a rota basis/ No sleep ins / We don’t work Bank Holidays/ After your probationary period you will have the opportunity to become an out of hour’s On-Call responder (paid at £50 for the first hour or part of the hour then at your usual rate of pay should the call out take longer).
- Although you’ll lone work some of the time, we do get together regularly for training and team meetings.
- Able to use technology to update support plans, complete online learning and to collaborate with colleagues.
- You’ll need an Enhanced DBS check done and we pay for that.
