The department

Our Private Client Team is High Net Worth Chambers rated and ranked Tier 1 in Legal 500 (in the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex Region) with our Department Head, Alex Drake and fellow Partners Alison Voyce, Steven Hamilton and Zoe Sivelle recognised for their specialist expertise. We advise business owners and high-net worth individuals often over generations on both local and multi-jurisdictional matters relating to wills, estate planning, probate, trusts, powers of attorney and tax planning strategies.

Partners in the team have a substantial personal following and are members of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

About The Role

We have an opportunity for a full-time Paralegal to join our St Albans office and one to join our Harpenden office. As part of our friendly and supportive team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced solicitors and be involved in a wide variety of matters, including wills, probate, trusts, and estate administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision and dependant on experience, assisting in the draft document production of wills, powers of attorney, and other client documents
  • As required and under direct supervision, supporting the administration of estates, including obtaining grants of probate and liaising with beneficiaries
  • Helping with the administrative preparation of trust documentation
  • Under direct supervision, corresponding and speaking with clients to provide updates and with third parties in obtaining information contributing to the progress of a matter
  • Producing and sending wills packs to clients
  • Conducting legal research and providing general assistance to solicitors in the department
  • Attending client mettings as note taker and producing accurate attendance notes
  • Maintaining accurate electronic client matter files in accordance with firm policies and compliance regulations
  • Providing general administrative support, including filing, copying, and managing documents

Key Skills

  • A law degree (or equivalent and GDL) 2.1
  • Previous Paralegal experience is desirable but not essential, experience as a Paralegal in Private Client will be a distinct advantage
  • Understanding of private client matters, such as wills, probate, and estate administration will be a distinct advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal with clients in a professional and empathetic manner
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • A methodical and organised approach to work, with the ability to handle multiple cases and meet deadlines
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience of case management software is not necessary but desirable
  • A proactive and willing attitude to learning, with a keen interest in private client law

Please note, this role is not specifically designed to satisfy the SRA Qualifying Work Experience criteria to qualify as a solicitor. If this your intention please make this clear on your application. The Firm offers a two year Training Contract - for which a separate application must be made. This role may considered part-time alongside SQE studies.
