Main duties of the job

This role would be a fantastic opportunity for an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to develop their experience and expertise in all areas of Radiotherapy. Pre-registration physicists on recognised training routes who are close to registration would be considered for appointment at a lower band.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

This role includes supporting the delivery and development of brachytherapy services, QA, planning and commissioning of equipment and new techniques. Dedicated time for R&D work will be given to support the many ongoing projects in the department. Service development and innovation are at the core of our work and staff are encouraged to attend and present their work at National and International meetings. The post holder will also contribute to teaching and training. The department is an accredited training department for Clinical Scientists and Technologists. The clinical service is delivered over 2 sites (Southampton and Basingstoke) and the post holder may on occasions need to travel between centres. Flexible working patterns are supported within the hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Qualifications / Training Required

Essential criteria

  • BSc in Physics or Physical Science (or equivalent).
  • MSc in Medical Physics (or equivalent).
  • Formal training in Radiotherapy Physics to enable State Registration as a Clinical Scientist (or equivalent) X

Desirable criteria

  • Attained Corporate Membership of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine
  • Chartered Scientist
  • PhD

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria

  • Specialist knowledge of radiation interactions, radiotherapy treatment planning, radiotherapy quality control and radiation dosimetry gained through degree and supplemented through CPD and short specialist courses, scientific meetings and in depth experience.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experienced user of IT software packages.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and disease processes.

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of presentation and teaching ability.
  • Previous experience of managing a small team of staff.
  • Experience of Advanced Treatment Planning and Dosimetry
  • Experience of training others
