Job Description

With a focus on the South Coast region, the main responsibilities of this are to:
  • Offer a sophisticated Commercial Banking service that caters to the unique needs of owner managed independent businesses, with an expected target client value of £3m to £20m (but not limited to this amount)
  • Develop and enhance relationships with both new to bank and existing HNW clients’ owner managed independent businesses
  • Provide effective lending and deposit solutions to meet the needs of such clients, building a profitable and sustainable portfolio which contributes positively to both sides of the AL commercial balance sheet
  • Work professionally and proactively to represent the Bank both externally and internally
  • Work closely with Private Bankers to encourage internal networks for the referral of business
To place the interests of customers at the centre of all activities, act in a way that is consistent with achieving good outcomes for consumers and to comply with the FCA and PRA's Conduct Rules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary relationship management responsibility for a discrete portfolio of more complex commercial clients, serving as their strategic partner in the bank and acting as a gateway to other products and services.
  • Meet demanding new business development targets and ensure unwavering commitment to service excellence
  • Manage a high value and complex portfolio of both assets and liabilities (including the management of a loan book) with particular focus on its impact on the P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Develop and present business cases and initiate credit proposals that are complex, in-depth and large in value to meet your clients’ needs
  • Overall responsibility for your own risk and regulatory performance as a senior member of the banking team, including the client acquisition process
  • Manage and develop an extensive network of external business relationships and introducers to acquire, develop and service SME clients
  • Work proactively with the Director, Commercial Banking to develop a strategic business plan for your area, including support in the development of less experienced Relationship Managers and Support staff

Risk:

Responsible for managing risks inherent to the role by diligently observing internal policies and procedures

Key Interfaces:

  • Clients - and their representatives and advisers
  • Banking team - both locally and across the wider Commercial Banking business
  • Team Leader
  • Back Office departments - including working closely with Credit, Compliance, Portfolio Control and the Operations departments

Person Specification

Knowledge / Experience/Skills:

  • You will have a successful background in commercial banking and detailed knowledge of the commercial market in which you operate
  • Significant commercial banking experience dealing with owner managed independent businesses
  • Proven track record in developing new business and growing a portfolio of high quality commercial clients
  • Fulfil the responsibilities required under the FCA’s Senior Manager and Certification Regimes, and Conduct Rules – the role will be a Certified Person under Regulatory rules.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including networking, negotiation, presentation, influencing and collaboration
  • Excellent business development skills
  • Excellent risk analysis and credit report writing skills, incorporating the ability to present effectively to Credit Committee in a way that inspires confidence and credibility
  • Competence with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Qualifications: Preferred: banking qualifications ACIB/Chartered Banker or equivalent
