Since opening in 2022, HMP Five Wells has developed into a vibrant and rehabilitative community with a focus on creativity, education, and purposeful work. Our ceramics workshop is already producing high-quality goods for small-scale commercial buyers—and we’re now seeking an experienced instructor to help us take it to the next level.

What You Will Do
- Deliver hands-on pottery and ceramics training, guiding prisoners through practical work and vocational qualifications
- Lead and manage the daily operation of the ceramics workshop, ensuring safety, structure, and productivity
- Encourage creativity, discipline, and teamwork in a secure learning environment
- Contribute to the production of commercial goods, supporting product quality and workflow planning
- Uphold health & safety and security standards, including tool control and routine checks
- Promote positive routines and help prisoners develop transferable employment skills for life after custody
- Professional experience in ceramics or pottery (hand-building, throwing, kiln operation)
- Ability to teach and mentor others, ideally with workshop or classroom leadership experience
- A confident, calm, and adaptable approach
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to rehabilitation, equality, and the prison’s community values
- Experience working in education, training, or production settings
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures in secure environments
- Customer care or commercial product development experience
