An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Sustainable Transport Team.


The role of the Road Safety Officer is to design, implement, lead and participate in the delivery of the Council’s Road Safety Education, training and publicity programme in accordance with agreed policies and priorities. Undertake the delivery of road safety education, training, promotional and awareness campaigns utilising a variety of delivery mechanisms including partnership working and digital technology. The individual will also assist with the operation of the School Crossing Patrol service which includes recruitment, training, monitoring, organisation, and supervision of School Crossing Patrols.


Candidates should be able to demonstrate qualifications or experience relating to the technical and professional aspects of road safety education, training and publicity, and the liaison with external organisations to facilitate partnership working. Ideally, the candidates should hold certificates relating to formal training in the operation and design of the service area, or a willingness to obtain certification.


This full-time role will be able to utilise hybrid working with a mix of working from the office and from home, when not attending educational settings or School Crossing Patrol sites. The office base would be Gun Wharf, Chatham.


The successful post holder will be subject to an Enhanced Child DBS check.

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. Transport and Parking are seeking a Road Safety Officer to join the team at level A. This is the entry point of the role, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, experience and skills to get you started, but you will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. All elements of level A listed within the person specification are essential. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs
