About Network Rail
We get people where they need to be, whether they are commuting to work, visiting friends or family, or going for a night out.
We make millions of lives better every day and have a vital job in driving the economy and prosperity of the nation!
Over the coming years we will be building and improving crucial rail links between the country's biggest cities, making our services faster, more comfortable and more reliable for the people who rely on us.
We're also changing our organisation to put the passenger at the heart of everything we do, to make our people even prouder to work for us and to be recognised as a true leader in our industry.
In joining Network Rail, you're not only joining an organisation with a vital role to play for the country, but also a team of more than 40,000 people, and a business dedicated to being one of Britain's best employers.
Does this sound like a team you'd love to be a part of?
Brief Description
What will you be doing?
You will be out and about across a large geographical area, not stuck in the same place day after day. If you want some variety in scenery from one day to the next, this could be for you.
You will be working on a huge variety of electrical and mechanical equipment and installations. Just a few: High Voltage switchgear and control systems; Standby generators (up to 500kvA); UPS systems; Outdoor high mast lighting; Heating systems for railway track points; Air conditioning systems; Low Voltage building and highway type installations and switchgear, and even a one of a kind in the world rail over canal moving bridge.
You will be based out of either our Peterborough DU but will be working on equipment on the East Coast Main Line local to the Hitchin, Peterborough and Doncaster areas. There will be a requirement to travel (in company time) and stay over when necessary. Company vehicle will be provided for business travel.
Don't worry if your experience level isn't high on this type of equipment. If you are appropriately qualified and have the right attitude, you will pick this up and will be supported to do so.
The shift patterns vary but you will normally have a 13 week roster which is agreed 6 weeks out – so you will know when you are going to be at work well in advance.
There will be an ‘on call' response commitment required for which an allowance payment is paid.

Who are we looking for?
Enthusiastic, well motivated, Electrical Tradesperson / Electrician / Engineer with recognised time served apprenticeship. Preferably hold City & Guilds 2391-52 ‘Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations', or with sufficient experience and knowledge to successfully complete the course.

You will have stamina and flexibility and be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and varied shifts including nights and weekends.
