The post holder will assist in the operation of the Transport team to ensure the statutory and discretionary functions are carried out efficiently and effectively with the highest possible customer service standards. The service works with relevant internal and external stakeholders including parents, operators, schools, headteachers and other local authorities in order to ensure that school transport support is awarded fairly and correctly, in accordance with legislation and the RBWM Home to School Transport Policy.


Reporting to the School Transport Team Leader, the postholder will need to lead on the processing and preparation of school transport applications and appeal hearings as necessary across the unit as well as support the key statutory functions of the service. Key areas will include:


  • Supervisory responsibilities within their sub-team
  • Ensuring that arrangements and paperwork are in place for all applications and appeal hearings
  • Developing and maintaining mutually productive relationships with colleagues, partners, agencies, and families.
  • Compliance with government legislation and national deadlines
  • Providing competent, organised and professional support while handling sensitive and confidential information – this includes development of transport policies and procedures and content for the website


The successful candidate will be:


  • Educated to GCSE level C or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English or have an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration with proven evidence of continued professional development
  • Experience with using G-Suite and MS Office applications.
  • Good customer service skills – interacting with internal and external users is a core requirement including routine enquiries from members of the public, receiving and responding to incoming communication
  • Experience of keeping and maintaining records (in accordance with local policy) to aid accurate reporting to a range of stakeholders (which may include families, children or young people).
  • Experience of working with others to provide seamless shared support on behalf of an executive office.
