About Us

The Vale of Glamorgan is welcoming applications within its Flying Start Programme. Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded programme and is available in targeted areas supporting all families to give 0-3-year olds a Flying Start in life. The programme aims to provide intensive support services for children and their families.

The Health and Wellbeing Social Worker is an integral part of the Parent Support team. You will be working alongside a multi-agency team which includes; Health, Parenting, Speech and Language, and Early Years. Flying Start is based within the ‘Early Help and Prevention’ strand within Children and Young Peoples Services.

The focus of this element is around providing tailored support for parents around conflict resolution strategies, and better communication. The Social Worker will deliver group-based support and 1-1 interventions in the home.

About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 9, SCP 31 - 35, £40,476 - £44,711

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 18.5 hours per week

Main Place of Work: Barry

Temporary Reason: Welsh Government funding until 31.3.2028

Description: To provide a direct social work service to children, young people and their families/carers, in line with the Flying Start guidance, relevant national standards and local and national legislation and guidance.

About You

You will need:

  • 2 years post qualified social work within a field of Healthy Relationships/Domestic Abuse
  • Experience of multi agency/ partnership working
  • Experience of supervising others
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to assess need, plan work, set priorities and review arrangements
  • A Degree in Social Work or recognised equivalent - DipSW, CQSW etc.
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • Solution focused
  • Enthusiasm for the post and self-motivated
  • Able to manage a demanding workload to given deadlines
  • Maintain a flexible approach to work
