Job Title: Internal Medicine Registered Veterinary Nurse

Location: Eastcott Referrals

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours/week over 4 days, plus 1 in 8 weekends

About Us

Eastcott Veterinary Hospital is an RCVS Accredited Multidisciplinary Referral Practice based in Swindon, Wiltshire, just off the M4. Our referral hospital is led by a team of Veterinary Specialists who provide an exceptionally high level of clinical and surgical veterinary care. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in all disciplines, and our team offers a warm welcome to referring vets, clients, and patients.

We are a veterinary clinic and referral multi-disciplinary practice that offers the highest care services for small animals. With our primary care and 24-hour emergency services, we care for pets from all over the south as well as animals in our local community. We believe excellence is at the heart of both clinical standards and customer service to make sure our patients have the best quality care.

Your Role And Responsibilities

We are looking for a professional, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Internal Medicine team.

The team continues to grow and currently comprises of 3 medicine RVNs, a PCA and 5 Medicine specialists and a resident. We have our own Medicine room, which is a base for the team and where some procedures are carried out such as scoping of patients, joint taps, bone marrow biopsies etc

Our medicine team works closely with the ECC, wards and imaging departments to deliver the highest quality care for our patients. Our imaging facilities include ultrasound, CT, MRI and fluoroscopy and are overseen by specialists. We are supported by a multidisciplinary team of neurology, dentistry, ophthalmology, surgery and cardiology specialists.

Oncology is part of the role and our nurses are very involved in this process, there is a designated chemotherapy administration room to provide calm and safe environment. The medicine nurses communicate with clients, calculate and administer chemotherapy and manage patients throughout their course, alongside the internal medicine specialists. Many of the medical and oncological cases require long-term management allowing us to build relationships with both clients and patients.

The nurses are instrumental in writing and implementing policies and SOPs both medicine and hospital-wide and there is the opportunity to be part of teams and groups focusing on particular aspects of patient care/hospital policies eg. Green team, infection control team etc

The team is close knit and enjoys a good relationship with so much opportunity to learn. We have a weekly case discussion where we look back over the previous weeks cases and discuss the history, diagnostic process and treatment to learn more about the diseases we see. This is a very open forum where questions are welcomed and this improves our ability to nurse these patients when having more of an understanding of the process.
