Your support will help keep our much-loved community Scrapstore running smoothly, welcoming and accessible. You’ll help us provide a safe, friendly and well-organised space where families, schools, artists and community groups can access affordable, sustainable materials for creative projects. By supporting and coordinating volunteers, you’ll play a vital part in keeping the centre open, well-stocked and running efficiently. With your help, we can continue reducing waste, promoting creativity, and supporting local people and organisations with low-cost resources. You'll be part of a small but dedicated team helping PARC grow and thrive at a time when environmental awareness and community support are more important than ever.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is Friendly, reliable and approachable Organised and confident in coordinating tasks and people Comfortable working with a small team of volunteers Able to handle basic cash/card transactions and keep things running smoothly Happy to learn simple admin tasks (e.g. using a Microsoft Access database – training provided) Experienced in supervising or supporting others, for example in a volunteer, retail, or customer service setting Enthusiastic about creativity, sustainability and making a difference in the local community
What will you be doing?
We’re looking for a reliable and people-focused Team Lead to support the running of our creative scrapstore and reuse centre in Derby. This is a hands-on volunteer role that involves working closely with other volunteers, helping things run smoothly during opening hours, and supporting the coordination of day-to-day activity at PARC (Play And Recycling Centre). You’ll act as a point of responsibility, supporting other volunteers, answering questions from visitors, and helping keep the space welcoming and well stocked. After a trial period, you may be trusted as a keyholder to open and/or close the centre on agreed days. Typical tasks include Welcoming visitors and answering questions about how the Scrapstore works Processing memberships, sales and shop purchases (card/cash) Helping other volunteers feel confident in their roles Coordinating restocking and tidying of the Scrapstore and craft shop Occasionally managing simple admin using a Microsoft Access database (training provided) Communicating with the Trustee team to raise queries or report anything that needs attention This role is flexible and collaborative – you’ll work alongside our friendly team of volunteers and Trustees, and we welcome ideas and suggestions about how we can improve the way we do things. We understand everyone brings different skills and experience, so there’s room to shape the role around your strengths and availability. Ideally, you’ll be available during our opening hours (Monday to Wednesday 10 00–14 00 and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month 9 15–14 00), but we’re happy to talk about what works best for you. We especially welcome volunteers who want to get stuck in regularly and be part of our long-term future.
