THE OPPORTUNITY – SHUTDOWN MANAGER


  • Accountable for developing and executing the life-of-asset shutdown strategy for the Morecambe Asset.
  • This includes end-to-end leadership of all onshore and offshore shutdowns, covering planning, contractor mobilisation, operations readiness, execution, and plant restart. The role ensures shutdowns are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production and late-life asset goals.

Once in role, you will be accountable for:


Strategy and Scope Management

  • Develop and maintain the life-of-asset shutdown strategy ensuring alignment with asset and company strategic objectives.
  • Apply risk-based tools to screen and prioritise shutdown scopes, ensuring only safety-critical, value-adding, and economically justified work is executed.


HSE and Incident-Free Delivery

  • Champion a culture of safety and operational discipline, ensuring shutdowns are delivered incident-free.
  • Ensure that all shutdown activities are planned and executed in alignment with Spirit Energy’s HSE management system and control of work requirements.


Shutdown Planning and Readiness

  • Deliver all shutdowns in compliance with Spirit’s Shutdown Management Standard
  • Manage all phases of the shutdown lifecycle — including scope freeze, mobilisation, execution, and closeout — ensuring clear control of scope changes.
  • Lead integration across disciplines (operations, engineering, maintenance, integrity, projects) to ensure schedule and work-pack readiness.



Execution and Operational Leadership

  • Assume hub leadership responsibilities during execution, overseeing and ensuring integration of offshore and terminal activities.
  • Ensure efficient plant handover from operations to minimise production downtime.
  • Maintain full compliance with HSE, regulatory, and technical standards throughout shutdown execution.


Commercial and Risk Management

  • Define, gain alignment with internal stakeholders and own the shutdown delivery strategy and contracting model.
  • Manage contractor performance against clearly defined scopes, KPIs, and deliverables.
  • Lead shutdown cost management — from budgeting and forecasting to final reconciliation — with robust risk and contingency planning.


Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the single point of accountability for shutdowns on the asset
  • Provide regular performance updates and decision-making support to the Asset Leadership Team.
  • Influence cross-functional teams to ensure shutdown success, even without direct authority.


Leadership and Team Management

  • Strong People Leadership: Lead diverse teams, both onshore and offshore, including Spirit staff, contractors, and managed services.
  • Decision-Making Under Pressure: Make timely, well-informed decisions during high-pressure shutdown execution.
  • Influencing Without Authority: Align and motivate cross-functional stakeholders without formal control.



ABOUT YOU


You’ll need to have an engineering degree, or something similar.We are looking for candidates who have a deep knowledge of both onshore and offshore shutdown planning, execution and best practice sharing. You will have to have a strong grasp of operations, maintenance and integrity requirements for late-life assets. Our preferred candidate will have good commercial awareness being able to manage a multi-million pound budget with a clear focus on value, efficiency and cost controls. Offshore certification is a must for this role for site visits.
