Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Huddersfield
Salary: £45,000-£50,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent | Full-Time
We are currently supporting a leading defence engineering organisation in the recruitment of a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join their site in Huddersfield. This is a key role within the manufacturing engineering team, offering the opportunity to lead on technical development and process improvements in a fast-paced, high-precision environment.
The Role:
Working under the direction of the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting production and assembly operations. You'll act as the primary liaison between manufacturing and engineering, providing expert guidance to ensure components are produced to specification and to the highest standards.
This role will also support the company's transition toward digital measurement methodologies by developing automated processes for measurement data analysis and training production and quality teams in their use.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and problem-solving expertise to manufacturing and assembly teams.
Act as a communication bridge between engineering and production to ensure alignment on requirements and solutions.
Become the subject matter expert for gear profile generation and finish grinding processes.
Review and guide component manufacturability in collaboration with design teams.
Lead PFMEAs and process risk assessments; create and approve procedures and documentation.
Interpret technical drawings and generate stage manufacturing drawings.
Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards in all planning and process documentation.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality, cycle time, and process efficiency.
Design bespoke tooling and methods, ensuring safety compliance.
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including suppliers and auditors.
Create works orders, technical packs, and accurate routings.
Apply understanding of heat treatment processes to manufacturing planning.
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong knowledge of rotating component manufacturing methods (turning, milling, boring, etc.).
Experience in manufacturing engineering within a precision or defence-related environment.
Excellent understanding of dimensional measurement and GD&T principles.
Proven ability to interpret and generate technical and manufacturing drawings.
CNC programming experience.
Familiarity with SAP and its application within manufacturing workflows.
Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD for layout creation and technical documentation.
Working knowledge of heat treatment processes and associated manufacturing implications.

Comfortable leading process improvement projects and implementing best practices.
