What You'll Do

Reporting to the Head of Digital, you will be instrumental in driving Toolstation's digital growth. You will optimise online product presentation, navigation, and search functionality to enhance the customer experience and achieve sales targets. This role requires a data-driven approach, strategic thinking, and strong collaborative relationships across our digital teams.

Specifically you will:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive digital merchandising strategy to drive sales, improve customer experience, and achieve business goals.
  • Lead and manage a team of 5 direct reports, providing objectives, guidance, training, and support.
  • Analyse website data, customer behaviours, and sales performance to identify areas for improvement and optimise merchandising tactics.
  • Curate and optimise product listings, ensuring high-quality images, compelling product descriptions, and effective visual merchandising.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including e-commerce, marketing, data analytics, and UX/UI to align strategies and implement meaningful changes.
  • Champion reporting and dashboard creation to keep merchandising and wider digital teams informed on e-commerce performance.
  • Be commercially aware of the merchandising team's impact on key financial metrics like sales, turn, margin, and in-stock targets.
  • Stay up-to-date with digital and e-commerce trends, exploring innovative solutions to enhance the online shopping experience.
  • Review and identify inaccuracies and improvements across the website and app, working with various departments to implement changes.
  • Build strong relationships with Commercial Managers, understanding product ranges and identifying solutions for issues.

  • E-commerce Expertise: A solid grasp of e-commerce trends and best practices is essential to keep us ahead of the curve, along with proficiency in data analysis tools.
  • Relevant Experience: Ideally, a background in digital merchandising, digital trading, digital category management, or online marketing within e-commerce.
  • Customer Insight: A good understanding of customer behaviour and how it influences purchasing decisions is key.
  • Adaptability: The ability to adjust strategies as the market evolves is important.
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented: You can analyse data, make timely recommendations, and are thorough and accurate in your work.
  • Organised & Proactive: You're a great planner and organiser, able to manage your time and prioritise tasks independently.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Always looking for ways to support others.
