The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to join Laing O'Rourke's pioneering Technology & Innovation team, an in-house centre of excellence redefining how major infrastructure is conceived, designed, and delivered. Working at the intersection of engineering, design, and manufacturing, you'll help deliver scalable volumetric solutions for sectors such as Healthcare, Science & Research, and Data Centres. This is a role for someone who wants to influence the “how” and “what” of modern construction—and see their ideas come to life.

You will work across concept development, technical detailing, and digital enablement, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to improve speed, quality, and sustainability through volumetric product innovation.

  • Leading and contributing to product innovation projects, from concept to business case
  • Collaborating with project teams and design specialists to embed systems thinking and MMC principles across key sectors
  • Supporting the development of digital design and configuration tools that accelerate efficiency and delivery

What skills & experience are we looking for?

We Are Seeking Someone With An Architectural Or Structural Design Background, And a Strong Interest In Innovative Delivery Methods. Ideally, You Will Bring

  • A foundation in engineering or design, with experience in product development or design consultancy
  • Understanding of MMC, programme and cost implications, and how to engineer value through standardisation
  • Familiarity with design and modelling tools (e.g. Solidworks or Autodesk), and a willingness to explore parametric or automation design
  • Strong stakeholder coordination and project management skills
  • A passion for solving real-world challenges and making construction smarter

Additional experience with DfMA, site-based delivery, Eurocodes, or professional accreditation is a plus—but we're just as interested in your potential, mindset, and drive to make a difference.
