LOCATION: Dock House, MediaCityUK, Salford. Hybrid (3-days per week on-site).

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,200 – £52,200 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Audio North produces a wide variety of programmes and content spanning religious and consumer journalism, documentaries, worship, poetry, classical and pop music.

Based at MediaCity UK in Salford, the department produces content for Radios 1Xtra, 2, 3, 4, 6 Music and the World Service. Our programmes and podcasts include Sunday, Thought For The Day, Moral Maze, Beyond Belief, Sunday Worship, The Daily Service,d Prayer For The Day, You and Yours, Sliced Bread, Toast as well as The Verb and Saturday Breakfast for Radio 3 and Heart and Soul for World Service.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

BBC Religion & Ethics produces over 500 hours of content ever year, covering Factual, Worship and Music programmes. You will work on titles such as Sunday, Radio 4’s flagship religious news magazine show; Thought For The Day, a religious perspective on current events in the Today programme; Beyond Belief, the award winning and definitive religious discussion programme; Heart and Soul for the World Service; and the highly regarded ethical interrogation programme, the Moral Maze.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • You will be required to collaborate with colleagues across the full range of religion and ethics content, and other journalistic content across BBC Audio North as required.
  • Working for BBC Religion & Ethics requires scheduled weekend working in rotation.
  • We are looking for a producer who is full of ideas, a brilliant storyteller and a natural networker and gatherer of impressive contacts.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Capable of delivering our existing programmes confidently, competently and with flair.
  • You will also bring some fresh thinking to what we do, where we go, and how we engage new audiences with where we place our content.
  • You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and a full understanding of journalism, as well as strong audio craft skills.
  • You’ll bring ideas on how we might expand our portfolio in the digital space and take full advantage of the commissioning rounds across all the networks.
  • And you will be an excellent team player, as willing and skilful with colleagues, as you are with the programmes you make.
  • You will be able to demonstrate evidence of sound editorial judgement and leading on air teams in factual content.
