Museum Engagement Officer

As our Museum Engagement Officer you will be responsible for the visitor experience and engagement activities at Valence House Museum by developing a successful and sustainable community engagement programme. This will include the creation of family-friendly trails, activities, events and focus groups. You will ensure that a broad range of visitors engage with the work of Valence House by developing and delivering an audience development plan and undertaking visitor surveys and data collection. You will ensure that our visitors have an outstanding experience by providing a high-quality welcome by managing the front-of-house team of staff.
Special requirements for this post
You will work designated days which will include a regular day at the weekend. You may also be required to work occasional evenings and bank holidays, where necessary.
About youTo thrive in this role you will have a degree or equivalent in History, Humanities or Creative subjects and at least 2 years experience of working in a museum or heritage environment. You will have experience of providing excellent customer service, with a proven ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences and the ability to create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships within your team and with external partners. You will have demonstrable knowledge of effective community engagement, interpretation and outreach work using collections and experience of developing and delivering a varied programme of family learning activities and public tours that engage the public with the work of the Culture & Heritage Service. You will work as part of a team to deliver a service that is innovative, engaging and relevant to the community, driven by the visitor feedback you have collected and collated to ensure the Culture & Heritage Service remains relevant to the community. You will also have experience of supervising employees (staff/volunteers/work experience students/trainees) organising their workload, and providing relevant training.
