The Opportunity

With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops, and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site manufactures significant volumes of test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development, and manufacture of the next generation FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, launched in September 2014.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Test Method Validation Specialist to join our Technical Services team in the role of Operations Scientist III, supporting technical product release at Witney, West Oxfordshire. In this role, you will be integral to the transfer of scientific test methods from R&D to Operations, including leading validation activities in our product release laboratory.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility will be to lead test method requirements, supporting the transfer of products from R&D to Operations. You will oversee test method validation activities for the sensor release laboratory, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory guidelines. You will work cross-functionally to support the transfer of test methods, create validation documents (including plans, protocols, and reports), and provide process development and characterisation support for new sensor test methods. Additionally, you will perform risk assessments, take corrective actions as needed, and keep detailed records and documentation of validation activities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline. You will bring prior experience in test method development and validation, with a preference for candidates with specific test method validation experience. You must have excellent attention to detail, a logical and methodical approach to problem-solving, the ability to prioritise and manage projects, and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances or new demands.

A lot of your work will involve cross-functional teams, so you’ll also need strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with colleagues in various departments across the business. Good IT skills, including proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, are also required for this role. You will be expected to spend time in the manufacturing facility, so practical hands-on skills or the ability to develop them will be beneficial.

What We Offer

In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a market-leading defined contribution pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. At Witney, we also support our employees to live life to the fullest – whether it’s joining our couch to 5k team, tending the allotments, learning to be a beekeeper, or dropping in for a yoga session, there is plenty for you to get involved in, should you wish!
