About The Role
The focus of this post will be to develop the specialist areas of practice, NIHR, commercial and Trust sponsored research. As senior research nurse the post holder will work in partnership with other members of the team (Research Manager, Lead Research Nurse, Senior Research Nurses etc), and provide support and leadership to develop services within all research active specialities.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of clinical research within a number of speciality’s, including leading the research delivery team, monitoring and raising the standards of research, ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research, and in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team facilitate the production of good quality of research.
The post holder will be instrumental in setting and implementing team objectives to enhance the performance and development of the research team. This will be achieved through working in partnership with lead clinicians, managers and matrons and external partner organisations.

Main duties
- Contribute to the development of the Trust research portfolio specifically in NIHR , commercial and Trust sponsored studies.
- Liaise with partnership organisations, academic, commercial and other NHS organisations to ensure the Trust infrastructure for research can support our portfolio of research.
- Contribute to contract negotiations to ensure appropriate funding is available to support clinical studies.
- Ensure effective communication between all members of the research team.
- Maintain accurate reports of the progress of the research studies and provide departmental updates.
- To work in partnership to develop further grant applications and contribute to the implementation of high-quality research.
- To provide advice and support to other members of the multidisciplinary team with regard to ICH GCP, R&D and REC registration and approval, project development, implementation, completion and dissemination.
- Liaison with pharmaceutical sponsors regarding feasibility and implementation aspects of proposed clinical trials.
- At all times to ensure clear, accurate records, developing data collection, case report forms and design of database where required.
- To establish and maintain a network of communication with other departments within the Trust, other relevant hospitals and Trusts, non- commercial bodies and pharmaceutical sponsors.
- In conjunction with or in the absence of, the lead research nurse, monitor and plan capacity of workload for the department ensuring it is adequately resourced.
- To provide on-going advice and information to patients/volunteers with regard to their participation in clinical research in order to facilitate effective informed consent.
- To assist clinicians in the assessment of patients/volunteers for eligibility for research and monitoring of their condition throughout their participation.
Qualifications (Essential)
- Registered Nurse/Midwife/degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
- Professional knowledge acquired at degree level, supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses such as any of those listed in under desirable.
