Job Purpose

Are you a strategic leader with a deep understanding of statutory and regulatory compliance across operational assets? Do you thrive on ensuring robust systems, technical assurance, and governance are in place to meet legal obligations across a complex infrastructure?

At United Utilities, we deliver clean water and remove wastewater across the North West every day-and statutory compliance is central to keeping our operations safe, legal and future ready. Due to continued growth and the expanding needs of our team, we’re seeking an experienced Statutory Compliance Team Leader to lead a specialist function, ensuring all in-scope assets meet legal requirements including PSSR, LOLER, COMAH & Gas Safety.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Statutory Coordinators, to ensure all scope assets are maintained in compliance with any required current legislation or regulation.
  • Oversee the development, documentation, continual improvement of statutory compliance systems, ensuring inclusive access to processes, training and guidance across all functions.
  • Ensure that all technical requirements for insourced and outsourced inspection and maintenance for are robustly specified.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments (e.g Engineering, H&S, QA, Commercial) to ensure unified, consistent compliance and safe asset management practices.
  • Prove assurance, performance analysis, and validation of all statutory activities, ensuring assets remain compliant, risks are mitigated, and documentation is audit ready.
  • Ensure all work is effectively scheduled, ensuring that robust processes are in place to ensure we avoid abortive visits.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Educated to degree level ideally in an Engineering bias with relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams.
  • A full UK driving license is required for this role due to regular travel across multiple operational sites.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement end-to-end processes or management systems.
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to create, manage and present documents and be able to effectively, confidently communicate key insights and narratives to stakeholders across all level and disciplines across the Company.
  • Technical experience of water and wastewater assets and associated statutory and regulatory requirements would be highly preferred.
