Purpose:

We manufacture all our Brompton bike frame parts in London and assemble them into bikes on multiple production lines. We develop tooling and equipment together, by encouraging everyone to bring in their experience and creativity, so that our customers enjoy a quality product, whilst fulfilling an ever-growing demand from our customers. We as a tooling and equipment team provide first class, bespoke tooling and equipment to productionise our bike design, and this role aims to keep the equipment in excellent working order.

The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

Lead and coordinate the daily activities of your maintenance team, maintaining over 500 assets on the factory floor.

Prioritise and delegate maintenance tasks based on urgency and production requirements.

Ensure work is completed in accordance with our internal Tooling & Equipment standard.

Preventative Maintenance (TPM)

Develop, implement, and monitor maintenance schedules for factory jigs, fixtures and equipment.

Lead in-situ servicing on fixed factory floor assets, ensuring the same level of attention is delivered on assets that cannot be moved, that is delivered to those in the workshop.

Breakdown, Fault-Finding and Production Line Repairs

Diagnose mechanical and pneumatic faults on factory equipment & propose solutions to fix.

Lead and support repair work, ensuring minimal disruption to the production lines.

Asset Management

Maintain accurate records of equipment, servicing, modifications, maintenance logs, and spare parts inventory.

Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company documentation standards.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

Promote safe working practices and ensure maintenance activities meet health and safety regulations.

Support and participate in risk assessments, audits, and compliance checks.

Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement improvements to maintenance procedures, equipment reliability, and team processes.

Collaborate with engineering and production teams on upgrades and efficiency initiatives.

Team Development and Training

Train, mentor, and develop new technicians and apprentices.

Monitor performance and provide regular appraisals to support continuous development.

Spare Parts and Procurement

Manage critical spares inventory and liaise with suppliers for timely procurement.

Optimise spares stock levels to reduce costs, avoiding unplanned downtime on critical assets.

Project Support

Support New Product Introduction engineering projects, equipment installations, and site upgrades.

Provide technical input and ensure maintenance considerations are included in project planning.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer or in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical & pneumatic systems, industrial machinery, and maintenance best practices. Some experience in Electrical systems would be of benefit.
  • Proficient in fault-finding and the use of diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to handle many issues at once.
  • Capable of working independently, managing time and priorities effectively.
  • Confident in delegating tasks and providing clear performance metrics for reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, liaising with colleagues across all departments.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety regulations, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, use precision measuring equipment, and understand tolerancing and engineering principles.
  • IT literate, with experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems or similar maintenance tracking software.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement and development.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to respond effectively to unplanned maintenance demands or changing priorities.
