EQUANS are looking for a Grounds Operative working on our Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital contract in Blackburn. This role would be a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview.
*The hours for this role will be 8 hrs per day equalling 40 hours per week.
*Represent Equans in a respectful and professional manner.
*Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on the grounds in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training.
*Respond in a timely manner to ad-hoc breakdown requests as identified by the help desk / manager or as a minimum, as per site contract.
*Carry out work involved in minor upgrading and adaptation works.
*Carry out duties in accordance with safe working practices within statutory and Company guidelines.
*Safely operate all types of equipment, hand and power tools in accordance with health & safety, manufacturers' guidelines and relevant training.
*Ensure the correct use of personal protective equipment and adherence to health & safety and infection control procedures.
*Maintain records as and when appropriate and as required, whether written or electronic.
*Willingness to assist and work flexibly with other colleagues and or contractor's staff
*Ensure liaison with the trust as required, ensuring there is minimum disruption whilst carrying out work.
*Undertake training where necessary to learn and maintain skills and to maintain and develop the requirements of the service.
*Carry out risk assessments on-site as instructed by your manager.
*Collaborate and co-operate with colleagues to deliver a customer focused service.
*Use initiative to make appropriate decisions, including when working out of hours.
*Diligently complete all required job cards and other work-related paperwork to the required standard whether electronic or hard copy.
*Complete work within the allotted timeframes.
*Carry out any other identified tasks commensurate with role.
Complexity:
A Grounds operative plays a pivotal role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and functionality of outdoor spaces, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-kept. Their spec includes landscaping and maintenance, which covers everything from planting trees, shrubs, and flowers to mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and irrigation management. They also monitor the health of plants and turf, troubleshooting issues such as pest infestations or disease, and applying necessary treatments. Equipment management is a key part of the role, requiring the operative to ensure that all tools and machinery are in good working condition and available for use. Safety is paramount, any concerns must be reported to the Grounds Supervisor.
General duties and responsibilities consist of but not limited to,
*Plants grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers.
*Installs and maintains water fountains, fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, outdoor lighting, and other design features.
*Digs trenches and levels ground.
*Keeps outdoor furniture clean and in good repair.
*Applies mulch, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
*Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning.
*Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as downed limbs.
*Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, leaf-blowers, snowblowers, tillers, backhoes, and tractors.
*Provides advice to clients and takes direction from them.
*Waters lawns and gardens.
*Installs and maintains irrigation systems.
*Rakes leaves and other vegetation from lawns and flower beds.
*Removes litter and other debris from outdoor areas.
*Operates gritting/snow removal equipment and shovel/grit walkways
*Works with other maintenance teams and construction specialists as needed.
Qualifications or Required Experience:
*Previously worked within a general maintenance environment.
*Previously worked within a customer facing role
*Previously worked within a healthcare environment (desirable)
*Have experience of computer-based task monitoring systems (CAFM) (desirable)
*Level 2 safe use of ride-on mowers (desirable)
*Pesticide Application Theory (PA1) (desirable)
*Pesticide Application Knapsack (PA6a) (desirable)
*Full driving licence
