Job Summary

This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a dynamic and exciting environment in support of the operationally active Commando Forces (Royal Marines).

Engaged in operational activity at home and globally, the Units and Headquarters housed in Royal Marine Barracks Stonehouse (RMBS) are critical to a range of Defence outputs. As a member of the Civil Service working alongside military counterparts you will be vital to supporting business continuity that enables core military output. Job Description

A varied and important role, the Post holder is responsible for organising, coordinating, validating and managing driver training, ensuring compliant and safe driver training on a full range of military vehicles for all members of 30 Cdo IX and other Commando Forces Units as required. This can be for the delivery of training both from home establishment and other military and training delivery locations away from home base. Setting the example, the Post Holder will also provide Operations Support to the Commando Forces, held at very high readiness, by ensuring their movement to and from airports and seaports as required.

Responsibilities

Main details of the role include but are not limited to:

Manage and coordinate military driver training for 30 Cdo IX and other CF Units as directed by CoC

  • As a qualified instructor, provide additional support for mobility training.
  • Supervise and deliver vehicle familiarisation to service personnel on all Unit specialist vehicle platforms ensuring the driver’s competency on the vehicle.
  • To support the MT team by encouraging a robust Driver Safety culture through awareness of Driver policy and best practice.
  • Support wider UKCF ground mobility outputs with planning and instructor support.
  • To provide Driver Support to 30 Cdo IX, its sub units and RMB Stonehouse lodger units.
  • To assist with other MT related tasks as required by line management and the chain of command.
  • Supervise and support peer instructors throughout the delivery of courses.

Person specification

We are looking for a capable, reliable, conscientious, diligent, and motivated professional with the drive to accurately manage, coordinate, and deliver military driver training for the Commando Forces while being ready to assist with Operations Support tasks. The postholder must have the breadth to work either autonomously or as a member of a focused team. Ultimately this will enhance Commando Forces Operations and Operations Support capabilities and allow them to deploy when being held at very high readiness.

Essential:

Full UK manual driving license (no more than 6 penalty points).

Desirable But Training Will Be Provided:

Defence Training Certificate or equivalent (training can be provided)

DVLA Driving Licences C+E / D / D1 / B CAT

Qualified to transport Dangerous Goods (training can be provided)

Working knowledge of in service military vehicles

Instructor Qualifications On In Service Military Vehicle

User qualifications for in service military vehicles and attached capabilities

Safety and Risk management education

Military Driver Instructor Qualifications
